SPECIAL SESSION - Maurizio Fermeglia
Session in Honor of Professor Maurizio Fermeglia
This session is dedicated to honoring the memory of Professor Maurizio Fermeglia (09-10-1955 / 25-02-2024), who passed away unexpectedly on February 25, 2024, while hiking in Val Rosandra, near Trieste, Italy.
Professor Fermeglia was a distinguished researcher in applied thermodynamics, particularly in the molecular simulation of polymers. He served as a beloved professor and former Rector of the University of Trieste (2013-2019) and was a cherished member of the ESAT community.
During his tenure, he played an instrumental role in shaping the academic landscape of the university. His dedication to excellence, tireless commitment to education, and steadfast support of the academic community left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
He was also a highly active contributor to the European Federation of Chemical Engineering, serving as the Italian Delegate to the Working Party on Thermodynamics and Transport Properties.
From a young age, Professor Fermeglia demonstrated a remarkable commitment to the field of applied thermodynamics. He was a regular participant in ESAT conferences, with his last appearance in 2022 in Graz, Austria, where he delivered a presentation celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Soave-Redlich-Kwong equation of state, an homage to the Italian School of Thermodynamics.
At ESAT 2026, this memorial session will feature plenary lectures by Professors Sabrina Pricl and Peter Cummings, in recognition of their special professional and personal connections with Professor Fermeglia.
